Jansen’s sister, Jane, had died of cancer on the very day of her brother’s race. The world watched and hoped four years later in Albertville, but he failed to reach the medal podium. Finally, at Lillehammer in 1994, Jansen won the gold.
He now does a lot of television work and is calling the races for NBC in Vancouver.” He makes his home with wife, Karen and his children in North Carolina and owns an orthopedic rehabilitation company. He also created the Dan Jansen Foundation in memory of his sister, with the purpose of fighting leukemia.

Dan Jansen won his first gold medal at the 1994 Olympics in the 1000 meter speed skating competition.
